    What is epoxy resin? 

    Epoxy resin, abbreviated epoxide, is sometimes called liquid wood, liquid glass or liquid plastic.

    Epoxy resin is similar to these materials in various properties – wood, because the resin is (partially) made from it, and you can also sand and paint it; glass, because it can be completely clear, and plastic – it can look like that after being colored with an opaque pigment.

    However, it is a resin, it is obtained from wood and specially modified so that it has properties thanks to which you can make really unique things from it.

    How to work with the resin?

    For propper hardening of the resin, it is necessary to mix both components of the resin together – resin and hardener (you have obtained it in one package).

    If you use the whole obtained volume of resin at once, there is no need to weigh anything. And that's because our resins are delivered in the appropriate weight ratio.

    Do you want to use only part of supplied resin volume? So use our calculator to get the ratio. There you can enter the weight you want and the application calculates the weight of the individual components. You can save the rest of the resin for next time.

    After weighting of both components into one container, it is necessary to mix the contents of the container properly – thoroughly, but carefully so that as few bubbles as possible get into the resin. Do not forget mixing of the sides and the bottom, where the resin usually settles.

     

    Coloring of the resin

    After mixing thoroughly, you can add pigment to the resin. The resulting shade of epoxy color is influenced by the amount of added pigment. We supply quality pigments, so you need to add very little amount into the resin. It is better to add it in small doses.

    You can always add next pigment, getting it out is much more complicated.

    Is casting safe?

    Casting of resin is safe, but there are some rules to follow.

    It is necessary to ensure that the resin does not get into our eyes or on your skin. Nitrile gloves must be used while handling uncured resin, and a respirator and goggles are recommended. We have prepared an entire article on the topic of safe handling of resin.

    After your resin hardens, there is nothing to worry about. Resins are everywhere around us, whether we want it or not – in food cans, cars, substations, it is used to make ultralights, carbon wheels...


     

    How to choose the resin?

    Each resin has different properties – different processing time, different casting volume or different thickness of the casting layer. These properties guide suitability for different applications.

    Why is it so?

    Each resin has different properties - different processing time, different casting volume or different thickness of the casting layer. According to these properties, it is suitable for other uses.

    You could apply a simple rule - the faster the resin (hardens faster), the smaller the thickness you can cast and at the same time you are allowed to mix a smaller volume of resin together. In practice means – if you want to cast a large table from resin, you have have to take into account longer hardening, but you will be able to cast higher  thickness and mix together up to 50 liters of resin and hardener.

    We recommend starting using resin for large castings or medium castings (you will have to wait a little longer to get the final product – up to 5 days, but this material will provide you more time for casting and in most cases you will not have to care about the maximum casting thickness or the maximum mixing volume).

    Our resins are divided into several groups:
    from 318 Kč/kg (VAT included) Clearcast – minimal UV protection, for beginners or for opaque coloring with pigment
    from 501 Kč/kg (VAT included) Transparent – improved UV protection, made of "green" resin
    from 571 Kč/kg (VAT included) UV PLUS – maximal UV protection, resin with top properties
